A sustainable future starting with food
Natural activities
- Reducing Food Waste
- Reducing food waste leads to resource conservation and less waste production. Effective measures include planning shopping carefully and prioritizing products nearing their expiration date.
At Gen-ten: Processed products are not discarded. Instead, they are safely donated to partner facilities or food banks to support those in need. We also develop new products using irregular vegetables.
- Contributing to Local Communities
- Actively participating in the development and welfare of local communities by addressing their needs. Through activities that enhance quality of life, we contribute to the overall benefit of the community.
At Gen-ten: We provide new food value to local residents, including those in Tokyo. We deepen relationships as a community, offer food education opportunities for future generations, supply food to regional welfare facilities, and strengthen support for vulnerable groups.
- Plant-Based Diets
- Increasing plant-based foods and reducing the consumption of meat and dairy products can lower the environmental impact of livestock farming, such as greenhouse gas emissions and high water usage.
At Gen-ten: We have integrated vegetarian and vegan menu options into our offerings, focusing on plant-based alternatives like meat substitutes, legumes, and vegetables.
- Organic Food Choices
- Choosing organic foods and naturally grown vegetables, cultivated without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, can reduce environmental impact and help preserve soil and water quality.
At Gen-ten: We use organic ingredients grown without pesticides and naturally cultivated produce and processed foods to create options that are kind to both people and the environment.
- Sustainable Packaging
- Using environmentally friendly materials for food packaging helps reduce plastic waste.
At Gen-ten: We use recyclable packaging materials and environmentally friendly materials such as biomass plastics. We also incorporate reusable items as packaging materials.
- Local Production for Local Consumption
- Purchasing locally produced food reduces energy use and CO2 emissions from transportation. It also contributes to revitalizing the local economy.
At Gen-ten: We strive to purchase from local farmers' markets and directly from local producers. We develop product lineups that incorporate as many local ingredients as possible.
- Upcycling
- Food upcycling involves repurposing food and ingredients that would normally be discarded into products with new value, thereby reducing food waste. For example, misshapen vegetables or fruit and trimmings from the manufacturing process can be used to create new products.
At Gen-ten: Food losses from production are transformed into "new value." "Vegetable trimmings are dried → powdered → processed" and "bread trimmings and losses are reprocessed into breadcrumbs."
- Energy-Efficient Cooking Methods
- Using energy efficiently while cooking can reduce environmental impact. It is important to adopt methods that minimize gas and electricity usage.
At Gen-ten: We use tools like pressure cookers and electric pots to shorten cooking times and adopt cooking methods that utilize residual heat.
The choices we make in our daily meals
can change the impact on the environment.
